Justin Tilson

I’m an Ontario native who migrated west in 2000, landing in Vancouver in 2001. I am a seeker, a java & web software geek, community gardener, sustainability advocate, graduate of Humber College & Royal Roads University as well as a mostly vegetarian organic fanatic, paraplegic, founder of Seva Server, part owner of Elastic Path Software, and husband to Lisa Tilson.

If you want a little history, my old site is http://www.justintilson.com.

Currently I am really keen on global warming, peak oil, building community gardens as well as being an active, informed and involved citizen. I started into an MBA in sustainable development at Bainbridge Graduate Institute in September of 2007.

My aim in this lifetime is to become as conscious as possible. Whether this includes a full awakening, we have yet to see. As becoming conscious will have a different meaning for everyone, let me try to explain my understanding of it. I believe that we have come to this planet to evolve ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It is my aim to develop these aspects of my being so that I can refine the traits of clarity, wisdom, integrity, knowledge and the capacity to serve. My motivation is two fold. First, I have an intrinsic desire to become conscious and second, I feel a very immediate need to actively participate in the evolution of society before we collectively turn Earth into a toxic waste dump. My studies have led me to see that we are approaching a very catastrophic collision of forces on the planet as humankind races toward the brink of environmental collapse. It is my intention to contribute to the evolution of the planet so that we may come to live in harmony with each other and the biosphere. I see this as essential, especially before we develop the capacity to venture out beyond our solar system.

    Hello:

I came accross your website by looking for a recipe for blackberry jelly.
I have to say that i am impressed with your website and of course you and

Hey Justin, the planting season is almost upon us! I’ve been hauling some logs out of the bush behind our house to build a couple more raised beds. Trying to spread out the garden work that will be mounting in the next month or two.
Have you two tried that cheese making kit yet? I want to buy one for Meghan’s birthday. I know it was mentioned in Kingsolver’s book, but can’t remember what the manufacturer’s name was. Fill me in si vous plait.

Hi Justin! Silvana from The Gerson Institute. I was checking your blog and I have to congratulate both you and your gorgeous wife for the terrific work you are doing towards the environment.
I personally do many things, but there is always this inner need to do more and contribute to this amazing role of caring, respect and peace.

Please don’t hesitate in contacting me personally or the Gerson family in case you need anything. I hope you enjoy your Gerson materials.

Regards and keep up that excellent work!

    Silvana.

    Hey there -
I found your blog when I searched Craigslist for a “spinning wheel” and your wife’s entry showed up! You don’t know me, but I just wanted to pop a note to say hello from Alaska. Seems you two have much figured out already! I think we can all benefit from more conscious living, and seeking.
    Best wishes
    Cathy

    Hi Justin,
I’m beginning to set up my first blog, in conjunction with my book’s website, and I wanted to check out other blogs for ideas. Yours is the first one that occurred to me to check.

It’s great to see how you’re doing. When I see your mom or dad very occasionally, we always catch up on one another’s kids, so I knew some of the basics — your marriage to Lisa, your work and studies a bit, and your garden.

I’m so glad you’re well and happy — but then, you always were a happy, positive ray of sunshine. And I like your blog, too… :~)

    Take care and Happy Holidays!
    Kate

WOW… Justin… i see you have been busy… good for you…. i stumbled upon this site while on Neil’s Facebook page and thought i would see what you were up to these days. I see you are an organic farmer….. that is amazing… i am a chef here in Sudbury and we use and promote local organic produce and meats that we use. I believe in using local products for obvious reasons of “supporting local”. And the organic aspect of the products we use is, for one thing, much better tasting… as this is what i am aiming for when preparing meals. You may also find this interesting… the restaurant that i am a chef at is on a golf course and we are the only one in Northern Ontario to use organic environmentally friendly pesticides and herbacides… kinda neat. Also, i saw some of your pics and noticed your solar oven… we have used one at work once in awhile to cook chicken… my Father- in- law sells and promotes solar energy and thought it may be a good thing to try out at my restaurant! Anyways, hope all is well and live is good…. Cheers!
