- The New Oxford American Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2006 is Carbon Neutral.Being carbon neutral involves calculating your total climate-damaging carbon emissions, reducing them where possible, and then balancing your remaining emissions, often by purchasing a carbon offset: paying to plant new trees or investing in “green” technologies such as solar and wind power.

- From Wikipedia: A carbon offset zeros out (offsets) all or part of the carbon dioxide emissions of a party, by reducing the emissions—or increasing the carbon dioxide absorption—of another party. This reduces net greenhouse gas emissions with the aim of combating global warming. Effectively offsetting the emissions of an activity makes that activity “carbon neutral”.
- There are many organizations selling carbon offsets. Just Google “carbon neutral” or “carbon offsets” and pick from the list. We have chosen to use Offersetters, a Canadian organization started in Vancouver.
